America, A Home For Every Culture - Students learn how America has been shaped through numerous cultural forces. Grades 3 & 4

Asian American Experiences in America - This lesson looks at reasons for population shifts and provides a chronological timeline for Asian immigration to the US.

Chinatowns - This lesson, along with a field trip, will help students appreciate and understand the Chinatowns of America and their impact on American culture. For Grades 3 - 12

Commonality in Diversity - This WebQuest explores the commonalties that all races share within their differences. An excellent class project idea. For Secondary Grades

Comparing Native American and American Folk Music: Grass Dance Song - Students explore similarities and differences between Native American and American folk music. For Grades 4 - 6

Exploring Native American Culture Across the Curriculum - Lessons and resources for all grades and subjects.

Indo-Americans - This lesson looks at the reasons for the Indian migration to america in the 1960's and how it affected both countries. For Grades 8 - 12

Minnesota Coalition for the Homelessness - Lesson plans for grades K - 9 about homelessness.

New Kids On the Block - Using Janet Bode's book, "New Kids On the Block: Oral Histories of Immigrant Teens," students research and conduct surveys to learn about the social stratification of their own schools. For Grades 6 - 8

Opening Doors to Social Studies With Children's Literature - Using Mildred D. Taylor's "Mississippi Bridge" students perform a number of different activities, learning about culture and empathy. For Grade 5

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - 75+ lessons plans are provided for all grade levels. An excellent place to begin a crash course on American music and culture.

Mosaic America: Patterns of Racism - This mini-unit traces African-American racism throughout America's history and includes activities for many types of learners. For Grade 7

Native American Poetry - Students will read Native American poems and then create their own poems in this mini-unit. For Grade 8

New Movements From Social Justice: The Latino Struggle for Equal Rights (1950 - 1970) - In this extensive, multidisciplinary unit students learn about the cultures, struggles, and stereotypes of different Latin American groups. For High School

Traditional Values vs. Modern Culture in the Asian Community - A look at traditional Asian culture and the rise of Asian gangs in America. A great unit that teaches about young people's need to fit in. For Grades 6 - 9

Traditions and Languages of Three Native Cultures: Tlingit, Lakota, & Cherokee - This unit focuses on the languages and culture of three Native American tribes. Students learn about them through web resources and then compare and contrast. For Grades K - 2

"Unite The School" - This 6 week mini-unit focuses on learning about all the cultures and countries represented in your school. Grades 6 - 8
