Welcome to the GWF School Store, the birthplace of GWF...

GWF School Store Overview

The GWF School Store helps support our foundation, our partner schools, and Ghanaian artisans. Here is how it works: GWF has created partnerships with a handful of artists in Ghana specializing in specific trades (e.g. woodcarving, bead making, batiks). We buy from these artists, ensuring that they receive a steady customer base, and sell their pieces at the American market value, ensuring a profit is made. All profits are then used to further promote our mission of improving the educational opportunities for students in Ghana and America. We offer Ghanaian schools the chance to become partners in our operations and receive extra funding from the GWF School Store. We offer American schools a unique service-learning opportunity, in which students use their knowledge about business practices and West African art to raise money for GWF and our schools in Ghana.

School Store History

The GWF School Store started as a simple idea failed. In 2005 the three co-founders of GWF tried to sell a handmade Ghanaian mask on e-bay for a small profit and put it towards the maintenance and upkeep of Wisdom Academy (Kitase, Ghana). However, with no credit cards and little credit opportunity in Ghana the plan never took off. So we (the co-founders of GWF) waited and spoke, spoke of when we could go back to America, when we could get credit cards, and when we could have easy computer access. Why stop at e-bay, we thought. Why not create an organization? Why not include other programs and projects to raise money?

A year later that one failed attempt to sell a mask has accumulated into what you see today: a government recognized non-profit organization with 501(c)(3) status that has several programs helping schools in both America and Ghana. The store you see today is small, but with time we know great things can and will happen.
