THE FACTS:

In Ghana (and throughout much of Sub-Saharan Africa), schools are in dire need of some of the most basic educational resources. This fact is doubly sad when studies have shown that successful school systems are a lynchpin for progress in all types of areas (e.g. disease prevention, economic stimulus, etc..), not just education.

In America, more and more schools and universities are making service-learning a required part of their curriculum. Other clubs, organizations, and youth groups have long seen the importance of such service work.

THE SOLUTION:

First, today's youth must learn to expand their definition of "community." Until we can do this, too many of the world's problems will go unchecked. To view the world as your community and mankind as your neighbor, this is the first step in solving global issues.

Combining all of these truths, GWF aims to establish reciprocal relationships between students, educators, schools and organizations from both sides of the Atlantic. These relationships are formed with the sincere belief that both sides can benefit greatly from each other.

GWF believes, “Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family.” (Kofi Annan, former UN Secretary General, Ghanaian).

HOW IT WORKS:

In Ghana, GWF seeks out dedicated schools and education based organizations that are in serious need of educational assistance. We form real and lasting relationships with these institutions. They tell us their needs, their struggles, their dreams. We listen and we report.

In America, GWF actively recruits schools, universities, clubs, organizations, educators and students to use their knowledge, talents, resources and drive to help alleviate the specific needs of their Ghanaian counterparts. We provide on-line resources for students and educators to learn about Ghana and aid. We work with classrooms and organizations to incorporate their knowledge and talents into meaningful service-learning projects.

Due to our emphasis on service-learning, GWF is able to remain a 100% volunteer run operation, ensuring the maximum amount of funds reach the schools and students that need them most. This approach rapidly improves the schools in Ghana and empowers the students of America.
